Who Should Attend

Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, and any professional that is working in the mental health field.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will learn how childhood trauma can disrupt attachment which negatively impacts a child’s emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development
  • Participants will learn the benefits of using attachment interventions in contrast to behavioral and cognitive interventions to heal the impact of childhood trauma
  • Participants will learn specific attachment interventions to use with children in order to establish and sustain a secure attachment

Children who have experienced trauma often have unmet attachment needs which can cause severe emotional, behavioral, and cognitive developmental issues. Attachment interventions can access and repair relational wounds where behavioral and cognitive interventions are less effective. This presentation will teach multiple attachment interventions including proving physical touch, posturing, engaging in rhythmic movement, creating masks, drawing, role playing, and raising pets. These experiential interventions are trauma informed and designed to establish and sustain secure attachment.
