Definitions and timeframes of early, delayed early, and late treatment side effects will be reviewed. Therapeutic radiation side effect avoidance and management in the clinic will be discussed. Lastly, considerations for which therapeutic radiation protocol is selected based on tumor control, survival time, and patient quality of life will be provided along with case examples.
