Tammy Everett, Executive Director of the Defense Alliance of NC (DANC)

Tammy Everett represented Pinehurst Resort from 1998-2015 and was responsible for generating local and national group business, specifically in the areas of defense, state and federal government and military as a government contractor responsible for their conference and lodging requirements. Tammy accepted the position as the Executive Director of the North Carolina Defense Business Association (NCDBA) on May 1, 2015, an established non-profit professional trade association since 2009. In 2019, Tammy Everett was one of the lead executors of a merger between the North Carolina Defense Business Association (NCDBA) and the North Carolina Military Foundation (NCMF), establishing the Defense Alliance of North Carolina (DANC). Tammy is one of the founding members of the Guardian Program for the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Braxton Bragg Chapter and is a member of the Greater Fayetteville Military Affairs Council (MAC). She was appointed an Advisory Council member of the North Carolina Defense Industry Diversification Initiative (NC DIDI) in 2017. Tammy is an active member of the task force group leading a state-wide initiative; NC Frontline of the Future. Tammy successfully completed the XVIII Airborne Corps Leadership Fort Bragg Course of Instruction in January 2014 under the command of Lt. Gen. Joseph Anderson and again in October 2016 under the command of Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend. Tammy has twin boys, age 22, Christopher and Matthew both earning their Eagle Scout rank in 2018. Tammy is a native of North Carolina growing up in Chatham County. She resides in Scotland County with her husband Rob.

Phil Williams, Science & Technology Chair

Phil Williams is recognized by Industry, University, Academic Partners, specific DoD circles, and global private sectors as an expert in cultivating strategic alliances and building high performing Agile teams. He is able to deliver high-value technology solutions that close gaps and/or increase top and bottom lines. His 45 years of hands-on experience includes founding and funding multiple tech start-ups, seven global patents, mergers & acquisitions, industry and financial turn-arounds, and high gain divestitures. Phil’s passion for innovation, research, development, test and evaluation have produced multiple disruptive platform solutions used by tier one global electronics, communications, defense, automotive, aerospace, and various materials manufacturing centers of excellence closing technology gaps, surpassing stakeholder goals, and driving diverse revenue streams. Phil holds DoD clearance and multiple certifications. Phil is a Member/Volunteer of The Defense Alliance of NC (DANC) and founded its first Committee “Science & Technology” in 2010. Phil has organized and facilitated over 135 DANC Science and Technology Forums, each designed to attract subject matter experts, build trust among participants, spark collaborative teams, economic growth, job creation, and close technology gaps. Phil’s efforts and mentoring have resulted in teams receiving over $2.0 Billion in combined contract awards and VC capital. Phil Williams LLC continues to provide extensive technology development and consulting services to start-ups as well as global design and manufacturing companies. Phil was born in Concord, NC and is a NC State University graduate.

 

 

Michael Mullins, Director, North Carolina Defense Industry Initiatives

Michael Mullins is the Director of the North Carolina State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES) Defense Industry Initiatives. Michael is a former Marine and retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and spent the majority of his career at Fort Bragg. He has extensive experience executing and managing Department of Defense training contracts in Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. During the execution of these training programs, Michael worked closely with the Department of State, various foreign ministries, non-governmental organizations, the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Additionally, he served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt University. Michael has a comprehensive understanding of the processes and procedures North Carolina businesses face in the acquisition and execution of U.S. government contracts. In Fayetteville, he served as an international program manager with General Dynamics Information Technology, project manager with American Systems Corporation and operations officer with a service disabled veteran owned small business (SDVOSB). Michael has a B.S. in Political Science and an M.S. in International Relations. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. 

Giles Beal, Client Relations Manager, Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program (DMCSP) at NC State University

Giles Beal is the client relations manager for the Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program (DMCSP) at NC State University Industry Expansion Solutions (IES). Beal serves on the advocacy and outreach team and supports textile companies in manufacturing advanced and smart textiles in support of DoD priorities. Giles has over 45 years of experience in the textile industry, serving as Vice President of Sales with Parkdale Mills and founder and President of Beal Manufacturing. With a career spanning over four decades, Beal has expertise in the North Carolina textile manufacturing industry. He worked for yarn manufacturers that produce and sell fibers to clothing manufacturers and the military, specializing in moisture-wicking activewear innovation. He was responsible for overseeing synthetic yarn operations and manufacturing as well as finding customers for products. He has formed long lasting business and personal relationships in the textile industry Beal holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Lenoir-Rhyne College (now Lenoir-Rhyne University). He also studied textile and yarn manufacturing. When Beal isn’t working to help textile manufacturers, he enjoys spending time with family and playing tennis.

Kami Baggett, Regional Manager, Industry Expansion Solutions

Kami Baggett serves as regional manager for part of the Triad region, which includes Alleghany, Ashe, Cabarrus, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Rockingham, Rowan, Surry, Stokes, Wilkes and Yadkin counties. Kami works with companies, businesses, community colleges, local economic developers, workforce development boards and local government to promote economic development, growth, and process efficiencies in the region's industries and service sectors. She has educated many companies and businesses on the variety of resources and educational programs available to them. By building relationships with local businesses and organizations, Kami strives to ensure all resources are available and working cohesively in order to help build stronger, more competitive businesses. Kami has assisted many companies begin and strengthen their journeys towards ISO 9001, AS 9100, IATF 16949, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 certification; implement continuous improvement programs; build their business around the Baldrige or Shingo program; maintain safety standards; adhere to OSHA required standards; and also grow their business. As a result of these services, these companies earn their Quality Management System certificate, become more competitive, provide transferable skills to their workforce, sustain current business and earn new business due to their commitment to improve their business processes and the future of their businesses. Kami has 25 years of industry experience in the public and private sectors as a technical program auditor, industrial engineer, ISO auditor, materials buyer, and Regional Manager for IES. She served as a Regional Manager in the Research Triangle region for eight years; and is now working with companies in the Triad Region which is where she is originally from. She has experience in lean enterprise, Lean Six Sigma, auditing, cost estimating, workstation design and layout, purchasing, inventory management, machining, sheet metal fabrication, CNC programming/nesting, rate-setting, time studies, and program management. The early part of her career was spent in manufacturing with Sanmina-SCI and Thomasville Furniture Industries. Before joining IES, Kami was an auditor for the NC Office of the State Auditor in the Performance Division, charged with analyzing and evaluating the processes of state departments and agencies. Kami has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering (1997) from NC State University and a MBA (2002) from UNC-Greensboro.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Andre West, Director, Zeis Textiles Extension, Associate Professor, TATM

Andre West's main role is the Director of Zeis Textiles Extension. ZTE's mission is to serve a diverse customer base to advance economic development through collaborative partnerships and outreach, innovative textile and quality improvement education, and comprehensive textile prototyping and testing services. Before coming to NC State, Andre was with The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale as the Director of the Fashion Department. During his 10 years there, he launched the Bachelors in Fashion Design, the Bachelors in Fashion Merchandising, a Diploma in Fashion Retailing as well as redesigning the Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Design programs for all the Art Institute schools. He is very familiar with Gerber technology, knitwear technology, textile and embroidery machinery, dye sublimation and screen-printing software as well as Adobe design products. His dissertation involved the use of virtual world education in fashion and virtual garment design. He has about thirty years of fashion industry background from small to large design and manufacturing ventures including owning a vertical knitwear manufacturing business and retailing his own products. Currently, he is working on vector control fabrics using Wholegarment knitwear, body scanning, and conductive knitting of yarns for military development.

Dr. Jesse Jur, Professor, Textile Technology Program Director, TECS

Dr. Jur leads the Nano-EXtended Textiles (NEXT) research team, which aims to leverage nanotechnology materials and processing methods to impart new characteristics to polymer films and fibers, with a specific focus on electronic and electro-optical modifications. Such an investigation requires an engineering design philosophy to be applied toward the ‘system-level’ development of the textiles and electronics to advance our technologies beyond the lab. Of particular interest to the NEXT team is the design of ‘smart’ textile platforms (wearable,internet of things) that enable improved materials integration of sensors, energy harvesting, energy storage, and communication devices.

Jasmine Cox, Director of Textile Technology Programs & Business Innovation, Textile Technology Center at Gaston College

Jasmine Cox serves as the Director of Textile Technology Programs and Business Innovation at the Textile Technology Center at Gaston College in Belmont, NC. Prior to her role as Director of Textile Technology Programs, Jasmine has served in various roles including Physical Testing Laboratory Technician, Special Projects Coordinator and Process Coordinator. Originally, from Raleigh, NC Jasmine obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Textile Technology from the NC State Wilson College of Textiles. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies in Textile Technology Management at the NC State Wilson College of Textiles.

Lee Moritz, Business Development Professional, North Carolina Military Business Center

Serving businesses statewide from Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC), Lee will focus his efforts on the Department of Defense (DoD) clothing and textile chain. Lee will also provide one-on-one assistance to help businesses in the region to co mpete for, win and grow jobs through federal contracts in the following counties: Catawba, Alexander, Ashe, Alleghany, Burke, Caldwell, Watauga and Wilkes. “The business development team is the heart of the NCMBC,” said Scott Dorney, NCMBC Executive Director. “Lee’s extensive experience in the DoD clothing and textile chain will prove invaluable to businesses within the CVCC service area, surrounding counties and statewide in competing for, winning and successfully executing federal contracts – and growing jobs in our state.” Lee will identify current and future prime and subcontracting opportunities (with a focus on DoD’s clothing and textiles supply chain), notify companies statewide of these opportunities, and provide one-on-one assistance to help companies in his service area to bid on and win federal contracts. Prior to joining the NCMBC, Lee served 21 years both in US Army and the North Carolina National Guard. He served in various assignments up to brigade and state level staff. A master aviator and maintenance test pilot, Lee served in a number of operational aviation and staff assignments both overseas and in North Carolina. Lee is a graduate of Appalachian State University and attended numerous military schools to include the US Army Command and General Staff College and the National Defense University. Lee brings to NCMBC 30 plus years of business development and marketing experience. His previous roles include 25 years as Executive VP Sales for a major NC textile company and more recently as Senior Director in the defense aerospace industry. He also served 16 years as a local elected official affording the opportunity to be involved in his community and North Carolina state legislation.
