In today’s society, with the “Defund the Police” mindset, specific segments of society and some politicians want police departments to either disappear entirely or minimize their effectiveness in controlling crime unless they are the victims.  Veteran police officers are leaving the job they love and, in some cases, being replaced with police recruits that know very little about what it means to be a police officer. Police academies only teach these recruits the basics, and their official training begins when they are assigned to an FTO, but where does the FTO go for a refresher or advanced training?

This course is designed to provide additional and advanced training to the experienced Field Training Officer. Research shows that new hires decide in the first six months whether they want to stay with your organization or not.  Want new officers to remain excited and engaged from day one?  It starts with you, the FTO.  Onboarding the new officer is a significant task, and the skilled FTO must be organized and efficient with their guidance as they will become a leader and mentor for the new officers they train. This course will provide established FTOs with an introduction to leadership skills, an understanding of pitfalls associated with special units, and an advanced view of personal improvement plans and FTO tools used to help solve recruit problems common to new officers.
