Lightning Protection Systems
1st of 2 Courses | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM | In Person | Free  

This course reviews lightning protection system designs needed to help prevent harmful electrical surges and possible fires to structures caused by lightning and the requirements for such systems to conform with UL and NFPA lightning protection requirements. 

Prerequisite Knowledge:
A general knowledge of construction planning is helpful, but not required.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will gain an understanding of the purpose of lighting protection systems and how they work.
  • At the end of this course, attendees will understand the national standards for lightning protection in the United States as well as national inspection programs available for verification that installed systems meet national safety standards.
  • Attendees will be able to identify the five essential elements of effective lightning protection systems.
  • Attendees will be aware of the factors that should be considered during the project planning process to specify effective, attractive and low maintenance lightning protection systems for all structure types.

Fire Door Course
2nd of 2 Courses | 12:15 PM – 1:15 PM | In Person | Free  Fire Door Course

Overview of Fire-Rated Coiling Door Systems, Types of Automatic-Closing Devices and Detection Equipment, Codes, Standards and Labeling, as well as Fire Door Systems and Applications (an Intermediate level course). 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand different types of fi re rated doors and their proper application
  • Understand the key components of fire rated doors and their role in the functionality and safety of the system.
  • Determine which type of door to use based on the application needs.
  • Select the proper release devices depending on fi re system of the building.
  • Select the proper method of operation based on the size and type of door used.
