Idiomatic Expressions

ASL Class: Idiomatic Expressions

If Idiomatic Expressions were literal – it really would be raining cats and dogs….

Idiomatic Expressions are a type of informal language that has a meaning different from the meaning of the words used in the expression – in other words, they’re figurative rather than literal in meaning.  Every language has them, and they’re plentiful in ASL as well!  Learn some of the features of Idiomatic Expressions in ASL, and how to apply them correctly to get your point across!

In this class, Hilary Ainbender will share how to properly sign and translate Idiomatic Expressions in ASL.
