Ohio Association for Play Therapy November 2022 Conference

Overview of Workshops:

Taking Play to School: A Play Therapist's Role in Collaborating with Schools

*Offering 3.0 APT CEs for Special Topics and 3.0 CSWMFT CEs

“Taking Play to School” will examine how play therapists, both school based and outpatient, can successfully navigate the educational world. Starting with getting in the door, play therapists will explore how to begin building relationships and advocate for the value of play therapy in a language educators understand. Then play therapists will explore how to set themselves up for success by creating a welcoming space, developing a schedule that works for them and the school, and involving caregivers in the play therapy process. Finally, play therapists will discuss common issues faced when collaborating with schools and how to successfully navigate them for the best interest of their clients and themselves, all while keeping things playful.

Ethical and Safety Considerations for School Based Mental Health Clinicians

*Offering 1.5 CSWMFT CEs for Ethics. NO APT CE AWARDED

Implementing play therapy interventions can be challenging in a location outside of the walls of an outpatient office. School Based Mental Health Clinicians quickly find schools are particularly unique environments to provide therapeutic services to children. School Based Mental Health Clinicians often encounter ethical dilemmas and safety concerns when providing therapeutic services in schools. Those clinicians must continue to work within the ethical guidelines and standards of their profession while following the rules and policies of the education system. Presenters will help learners identify both ethical and safety considerations when working in schools. Presenters will then provide guidance on the best ways to address ethical dilemmas and safety concerns when they arise to create a safe and healing atmosphere for students.

Safety Circles: Fostering Safety, Regulation, and Attunement in Play Therapy Groups

*Offering 2.0 APT CEs for Special Topics and 2.0 CSWMFT CEs

Play therapy with groups can be a powerful modality for healing and growth. A large part of the play therapist’s role in leading a therapy group is creating a sense of safety and connection within the group. During this workshop, participants will begin to explore their role in offering safety, attunement, and co-regulation throughout the group process. Participants will also add a few hands-on, prescriptive playful interventions to add to their tool box to help foster regulation and attunement within the group members.
