ABOUT OUR LUNCHEON PROGRAM: Dr. Jennifer Lehman will give an overview of the CAP® program and summarize her research findings about bequests. Specifically, she will discuss her research comparing Caucasians and African Americans on their self-rated importance of leaving a bequest to family, charity, and religion, possible reasons for the bequest gap, and what opportunities this presents for education and service to a community. She will wrap up with her study that explores whether lifetime donors to different types of charities also differ in the importance they place on leaving a charitable bequest. As a whole, individuals give more during life, through annual and major gifts, than they do at death. Many of these donors are an untapped resource for planned gifts, some more than others, and this data about which donor types are most likely to be interested in a charitable bequest could inform our conversations about philanthropy.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERJennifer Lehman earned her PhD in personal financial planning from Texas Tech University, where Russell James was her dissertation chair. She also earned law and MPA degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill, a Bachelor of Science from TCU, and CFP® credentials. Dr. Lehman has published research in several different peer-reviewed scientific journals and has been quoted on charitable and financial issues in a variety of news sources. She is the new CAP® Program Director and Assistant Professor of Philanthropy at The American College of Financial Services, which has helped financial services professionals realize their career goals through rigorous and practical education.
