Roof Technology and Science I is a 16-hour course and the first component of a two-part series covering, in detail, aspects of the technology and science of roofing. The course covers the history and evolution of roofing up to present-day common applications. The course features terminology and technical information regarding roof decks and structures, roof insulation, bitumen membranes, built-up and modified-bitumen membranes, and flashing systems. An understanding of heat transfer theory, moisture, thermal design, and the calculation of U-factors will also be presented.
INSTRUCTORS
Peter Saunders, Director, Building Science & Technical Service, Henry Canada
Peter has been a member of the Henry Canada team since 1990. The first part of his tenure, Peter worked as a Henry Technical Service Representative where he spent his time reviewing application on construction sites and training contractors on product application. In 2010, Peter joined the management team where he leads Building Science & Technical Services across Canada. Peter has always been involved with new product development and field verifies products in real life situations before they go to market. Peter has been an IIBEC member & RRO since 2007.
Gary Hamilton, P.Eng., RRC, RRO
Gary graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree. Gary established Roofspek Limited in 1978 and his involvement in the various facets of roofing inspection and consulting services became a full-time occupation when he left the family roofing business in 1985. Gary joined Jacques Whitford, a Maritimes based consulting engineering firm, in March of 2002 in the position of Senior Roofing and Building Envelope Consultant supporting roof and building envelope services as well as related mold abatement, PCA, and associated service lines. Gary joined the Master Roofers Guarantee of New Brunswick in 2011 in the position of Technical Manager to both the MRGNB and the associated New Brunswick Roofing Contractors Association. He joined Fishburn Sheridan Atlantic Inc. in February of 2022 in the position of Senior Engineer with a focus on supporting and mentoring colleagues in the firm. Gary has been an active consultant member of RCI Inc., now IIBEC, for over 22 years and has attained both the RRO and RRC designations.
