Mary Magdalene in Provence

A 22 day online journey through history, legend, art and more

Available on a sliding scale from $30-150

Join cultural historian, musician and mythologist  Kayleen Asbo, Ph.D for 22 days in an online feast of beauty and delight as we celebrate Mary Magdalene and the saints of Provence.

Included in this all NEW series are:

- A 90 minute zoom celebration on All Saint's Day ( November 1) at 10:30 am with Kayleen
which will orient you to getting the most out of series and where you will have an opportunity to connect with your fellow pilgrims.

-  A concluding zoom gathering at the end of the cycle on November 22 at 10:30 am PST to connect to other students to share your own reflections and insights  and where you can ask questions of Kayleen.

- Two additional zoom gatherings on Saturday, November 5 and Saturday, November 19 from 10 am - 11 am Pacific time to lean about the Anam Cara tradition with Kayleen Asbo and the Magdalene Provencal pilgrimage tradition with Veronique Flayol.

- Sunday Evening Complines, contemplative gatherines of music and meditation where we will also explore the early monastic spiritual practice of Lectio Divina.

All of these zoom sessions will be taped for later viewing if you cannot join live.

Each of the other 22 days will feature written daily posts of history, legend and images exploring the Provencal traditions such as:

- The legend of how Mary Magdalene was carried by the rudderless "Boat  of Bethany" to the shores of Provence
-How Mary Magdalene spent her final years in spiritual ecstasy in the mountains and grotto of La Sainte Baume.

-The lives and legends of each of Mary Magdalene's Companions: Lazarus, Martha, Mary Jacobe, Mary Salome, Sidonius and Maximin.
- The legends of Saint Anne, grandmother to Jesus, and how her bones were brought to Apt by the Companions.
- The Cathedral at Aix, site of the first teaching of Christianity
-The Abbey of Saint Victoire and the Crypt where Mary Magdalene and Lazarus celebrated mass.
- Saint Sara, patron saint of the Gypsies in Sainte Maries de la Mer
- The history and writings of  Saint John Cassian, who arrived in Provence in the early 5th century to establish the first double monasteries of men and women in the West, modeled after the Dessert Fathers and Mothers of Egypt, and how the themes of his writings and the Gospel of Mary are mirrors of each other.
- How Mary Magdalene's teaching and example became the Mother Tree from which Celtic Christianity and Benedictine Monastacism sprung and spread.
- How some scholars believe that the Black Madonnas of France are not depicitions of the Virgin Mary but references to an esoteric Magdalene tradition.
- Recommendations for "must see" pilgrim sites in Provence.
