A Beyond the Headlines Event
International law has an impact on every American’s life,
NATO has been at the center of the War in Ukraine since President Vladimir Putin launched a Russian attack in February 2022. Did NATO cause the war? How involved is NATO in the war? How will NATO’s expansion to include Finland and Sweden affect Putin’s perception of NATO? Will NATO allow Ukraine to join the alliance? Will NATO eventually have to intervene directly to save Ukraine? These are the questions we will address in this lecture.
Brent F. Nelsen is professor of politics and international affairs at Furman University where he has taught since 1990. He received his BA from Wheaton College (IL) and his MA and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His teaching and scholarship focus on Europe and the European Union with an emphasis on religion and politics. His most recent book, co-authored with James L. Guth, is titled, Religion and the Struggle for European Union: Confessional Culture and the Limits of Integration. (Georgetown University Press).
