Lincoln in Film Concludes on November 19

In honor of the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s iconic Gettysburg Address, the final film in the Lincoln in Film series will be Lincoln, screening Saturday, November 19 at 2pm in the Contemporary Club.

Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Field, and Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln focuses on Abraham Lincoln’s work to rally support for the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which formally ended the practice of chattel slavery in the United States. Set in January of 1865, the film depicts the struggles encountered by Abraham Lincoln, his supporters, and the Radical Republicans in Congress to pass the controversial amendment.

Inspired by Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals, Lincoln received criticism by historians for historical inaccuracies, but has been credited as an important film. A critical and popular triumph, Lincoln earned Daniel Day Lewis recognition as Best Actor by film organizations across the globe.

This film is rated PG-13 for violence and strong language. Registration is requested, but not required. No admission is charged for film screenings thanks to the generous contributions of donors to the Library.

The Contemporary Club is located at 173 S. Eureka Street. For more information or to see schedule updates, visit www.akspl.org or call (909) 798-7632.
