CSI Austin Chapter November Virtual Membership Meeting:  Protecting the First Side of the Building

havePlease join us for the CSI Austin Chapter's November Monthly Membership Meeting (Virtual via Zoom):  Garrett Deel will present "Protecting the First Side of the Building"

Session Description:

The course provides an in-depth look at below-slab moisture, soil gases, brownfields & contaminated sites, and subterranean termites and how to effectively mitigate these concerns with barrier solutions on various project sites and differing foundation designs.  The program will examine building material failures, property loss, negative health effects, and the liability associated with the intrusion and infestation of these concerns, along with the environmental factors that are impacted by each of the issues compared to that of the sustainable solutions selected to mitigate them.  Moreover, the program is designed to update attendees on the current codes, standards, and recommendations from ASTM, ACI, EPA, ICC and other organizations associated with each concern, as well as experts’ perspectives from each respective field.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • After attending the session, participants will have a better understanding of the different means and methods available for protection of vapor intrusion below the building, including, but not limited to, the differences between a chemical vapor barrier and a water vapor barrier.  Participants will learn the science behind vapor migration below and through concrete slabs as well as into crawl spaces. Participants will gain a better understanding of subterranean termite migration and the differing means and methods available for control.  In addition, participants will learn what sustainable design, construction, and installation considerations can be employed via various, cost-effective physical barriers that ensure success.
