In 2023 the Clergy Professional Development Day features a workshop led by The Samaritans of Boston, whose mission it is to reduce the incidence of suicide by alleviating despair, isolation, distress and suicidal feelings among individuals in the community, 24 hours a day; to educate the public about suicide prevention; to help those who have lost a loved one to suicide; and to reduce the stigma associated with suicide.
Community connectedness has a role to play in reducing stigmas associated with suicide and mental illness, stigmas which inhibit people from discussing their feelings and challenges. During the workshop, you will learn how to:
All clergy are encouraged to take advantage of the workshop. Clergy due for a Safe Church refresher in 2023 should attend both the workshop and the review segment. You may choose to attend the segments in any order and in any combination.
Those who register for virtual segments will receive detailed information to join by zoom in a reminder email at least 12 hours prior to the meeting. In person attendees will be offered lunch between 12-1pm.
