Hybrid Hate: Conflations of Antisemitism & Anti-Black Racism from the Renaissance to the Third Reich

During this presentation — the Mark & Pamela Rubin Lecture in Hate, Genocide, and Ethnic Cleansing — Prof. Tudor Parfitt will present his most recent work, Hybrid Hate, the first book to study the conflation of antisemitism and anti-Black racism. In the book, Parfitt investigates the development of antisemitism, anti-Black racism, and race theory in the West, from the Renaissance to the Second World War.

The presentation will be followed by a panel of scholars of Africana Jewry who will discuss the implications of this groundbreaking work. In addition to Tudor Parfitt, panelists include Prof. Nathan P. Devir, associate professor at University of Utah, and Remy Ilona, PhD candidate at UCR working on a dissertation entitled “The Holocaust of Biafra: A Case of Antisemitic Genocide in Africa." Facilitator will be Michael Alexander, professor and Maimonides Chair in Jewish Studies.
