Introduction to Mediation Online Course

Introduction to Mediation Course Information

This introductory course will introduce students to the concepts and skills necessary to apply an interest-based and facilitative mediation process to disputes in a variety of areas such as child protection mediation, family law mediation, and civil mediation. Students will have ample opportunity to practice the skills in small groups with the guidance of coaches.

This course will ask students to consider the mediation process from a variety of lenses and to challenge and reflect on their belief system, values, and personal experiences with the topics presented.

Introduction to Mediation will give students exposure to dispute resolution in a variety of areas so that they may identify their own areas of interest and growth.

The course is 12 weeks in length with two sessions per week.  The course is delivered exclusively through an online platform.  Each session is two hours in length.  Some sessions are instructional, and others will be small group, skills-based sessions facilitated by coaches.  Instructional sessions are on a set schedule.  Small group coaching sessions will be more flexible and will be scheduled in collaboration with the coach and group members.

In addition to time in instructional and coaching sessions, students can expect to spend up to an additional two hours per week on course work.

Introduction to Mediation will provide students with a total of 46 hours of core education in conflict resolution and mediation theory, including 8 hours of simulated role play.

If students require accessibility accommodations, they can indicate those accommodation requests on the registration form and the instructor will be in touch to discuss them.
