About

Gareth Higgins was born in Belfast in 1975. He writes and speaks about the power of storytelling to shape our lives and to create a peaceful and just world. Or, as he says, how to take life seriously “without believing your own propaganda.” He has been part of the peace-building and violence reduction work in northern Ireland, including helping to teach the world’s first graduate course in Reconciliation Studies at Trinity College Dublin. He also helped found the Wild Goose, New Story, and Movies & Meaning festivals. He also founded The Porch Magazine.

Author | Storyteller | Activist

Join Gareth Higgins and the Lumunos community in a conversation about the intersection of fear and courageous listening based on his latest book "how not to be afraid." Brian McLaren's thoughts about Gareth's book: "I'm so happy this beautiful book is here. This book will touch you and help you overcome fear, live with courage and creativity, and find meaning on this frightened planet." Pádraig Ó Tuama calls the book a "journey from fear to courage, from being afraid to not staying afraid." (Click here for a video of a conversation between Brian McLaren and Gareth Higgins)

Gareth Higgins is an author, storyteller, and activist who spent his early years working toward peace during "The Troubles" in northern Ireland. If you’re feeling afraid and want to consider an idea beyond fight, flight, or freeze—an alternative that might actually transform our experience of fear into something better—come join us for this event.

The event is free, but we ask that you consider donating $25 or more (via the "Donate" button below.)  Thank you!
