About our speaker
Alan Shirkey, P.E., has more than 27 years of experience in water resource engineering and complex project management. At the South Florida Water Management District, he is responsible for oversight of the design and construction of regional-scale ecosystem restoration projects including stormwater treatment areas, above ground impoundments, flow equalization basins, and system capacity improvements. Additional responsibilities include oversight of the O&M Capital Program, the District’s initiative to rehabilitate flood control infrastructure constructed primarily in the 1950’s - 1960’s.
Prior to joining the District in 2008, he served in the private sector at engineering consulting firms, specializing in the design and construction of residential and commercial land development projects, as well as drainage, water & wastewater infrastructure improvement projects for numerous South Florida municipalities and utilities.
Mr. Shirkey has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida. A Florida native and life-long resident of the Palm Beach/Martin County area, he is a professional engineer registered in the state of Florida.
