Situational Leadership: One Size Does Not Fit All! - Webinar (06/29/2023)

Situational Leadership is a model for developing people. A situational leader is one who can adopt and apply different leadership styles as needed. Most of us do this anyway in our dealings with other people. It works because it passes two basic tests: it is simple to understand, and it works in most environments (such as libraries) for most people.

Attend this class and become the situational leader who, as a teacher and coach, challenges staff to become more self–motivated and self–directed. Learn how to create an environment where people can grow their knowledge base, develop their skills, build their confidence, share their talents, and ultimately contribute to their organization’s success.

Participants will be able…

To better understand how the various parts of the Situational Leadership Model work together in a library setting.
To differentiate between leader task behavior and relationship behavior, and where they fit into the model.
To identify the characteristics of the various employee developmental levels.
To better understand why employee developmental levels are situational.
To better understand why there is no one best leadership or coaching style.
To better understand how the Situational Leadership Model teaches employees to provide their own direction and support.
To diagnose employee developmental levels and choose the appropriate leadership approach from the model.
To learn a common language for leading and developing others.
To apply the Situational Leadership Model to library type scenarios for both resolution and analytical discussion.

The bottom line of the Situational Leadership Model is that it allows you to analyze the needs of a given situation, and then adopt and apply the most appropriate leadership approach to that situation.

Virtual Trainer: Michael Clark

Michael Clark has an extensive background in management and supervisory development, quality improvement efforts, facilitation of strategic planning sessions and executive retreats, and one-on-one executive coaching. He worked as a Training and Performance Improvement Director for various State of Florida agencies for many years and has been the Owner/President of MRC Consulting for fifteen years. He has designed numerous training programs using the Instructional Systems Design Methodology, and has delivered over 2000 seminars, workshops, and presentations covering a diverse set of topics, with a focus towards developing leadership skills for managers and supervisors. Michael has also led the NEFLIN Management Training Institute for several years.

Mr. Clark has earned a BS in Experimental Psychology, a M.Ed., and has completed the course work for a Ph.D. in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Instructional Systems Design Methodology at Florida State University.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.

Florida’s LSTA and LCG programs are administered by the Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2022-23, the total state and federal budgets for NEFLIN's programs are $688,109. 42% of the total costs ($288,109) are supported by federal funds, and 58% of this program ($400,000) is supported by state funds.
