Conceptual Models for Agent Based Modeling - Mon Mar 20, 2023 - INCOSE Canada

This is an INCOSE volunteer-organized virtual event brought to you at no cost by the INCOSE Canada Chapter in collaboration featuring speaker Terry Fitzgerald, a recognized as a Chartered Engineer registered in the UK, INCOSE CSEP and OMG SysML advanced model builder and has 13 years of experience working in engineered-to-order industries in China and Canada where he uses his MBSE know-how to improve clarity and value to complex systems for stakeholders.

Event Abstract

A defining feature of complex systems is the emergence of either a property or a behavior that could not have been predicted by examining the system elements. Emergence may appear particularly if the system elements are autonomous, heterogeneous and non-linear, or if we can model system elements as agents. Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) is a tool in the Systems Engineering Professional's tool-kit to predict emergence but the lack of conceptual model templates for ABM mean that agent-based simulations are designed and run without a robust concept. This webinar reviews ABM, presents conceptual models based on literature reviews and walks through a case-study based on Schelling's Model of Segregation.
