Mike and Susan Fredrickson (supported by Carole Wilder) are volunteers partnering with Bethany’s Gait in creating opportunities for our fellow equine enthusiasts.  Our goal is to create an enjoyable environment where we challenge ourselves and our horses to advance our skills while enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of other riders.  The upside of this is that 100% of the proceeds go directly to benefit a fantastic 501(c)(3) charity – Bethany’s Gait - to support their programs and to Boyd Ranch owned by the Desert Caballeros Museum.

BENEFITTING BOYD RANCH IN WICKENBURG, AZ  & BETHANY'S GAIT IN PRESCOTT, AZ 

This is a joint venture between the Sandviks of Wickenburg, AZ and Steamboat Springs, CO, the Fredricksons from Cave Creek, AZ and Carole Wilder from Star Valley, AZ and Waddell, AZ.  

 Boyd Ranch is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, owned by the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, Wickenburg, AZ and managed by a Committee and volunteers.  Their mission statement: To provide a unique facility for educational programs and equestrian activities that preserves the Western lifestyle.

 Bethany's Gait is dedicated to "Rescuing Horses, Restoring Lives".  The programs offered by Bethany's Gait were created specifically for active duty, reserve and veteran military personnel, first responders and their families.  One of the things that makes the program unique is that Bethany's Gait is also a horse rescue.  Bethany's Gait is a 501(c)(3) non-profit ranch in Prescott, AZ.  

ACTIVITY SCHEDULE

Friday, October 27 -  TWO EVENTS TO CHOOSE FROM - CLINIC OR RACE AT A WALK::

NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP RESISTANCE-FREE TRAINING CLINIC:  "On the Ground and Under Saddle" presented by Michael Fredrickson and "Horse Management" presented  Josie Fredrickson - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Cost is $140 for Wild Rose Contest competitors.  $170 for all others.  Limited to 12 participants.  Call Carole at 602-686-2435 to be put on the Clinic List.  Mail your check for appropriate fee, made payable to Michael Fredrickson, to Carole Wilder, P.O. Box 371, Waddell, AZ  85355.  Payment in full holds your spot.  CLINIC ARRIVALS:  No arrivals before noon on Thursday please.  

RACE AT A WALK - 3 Divisions:  Non-Gaited at a walk,  Gaited at a Walk, Speed.  Cash prizes per division:  First - $40; Second - $20 and Third - $10.  Limited to 30 riders.

Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29  - 6-Mile Obstacle Trail Contest - 6 miles, 6 obstacles, 6 X the fun.  Competition limited to 50 competitors per day.  TRAIL COMPETITIONS ARRIVALS:  No arrivals before noon on Friday, please.  

Please join us at 6:00 p.m. for a potluck on Saturday night.  Best chicken dish wins $20 - voted on by participants.  

 Ride all the events -- or pick and choose your events.  The rides on Saturday and Sunday include all natural horse type obstacles as you are riding the beautiful Sonoran desert.  

Boyd Ranch is a 160-acre gem in the middle of the desert with the Hassayampa River running through it and surrounded by public lands.  Enjoy riding through magnificent saguaro and ocotillo cacti, on two track dirt roads, single track trails that weave in and out of sandy washes, hard pack and some rocky areas.  Shoes/boots recommended.  Trails rated easy to light moderate.

Three levels of difficulty at the obstacle trail contests on Day 2 and Day 3 - you decide which level suits you and your horse partner best.  Once you select a level of difficulty - novice, pleasure or advanced - you will ride that level for the day.

ONLY ONE HORSE PER COMPETITOR ALLOWED ON SITE FOR ENTIRE WEEKEND.

FEES

Online Registration Fees for 6-mile Obstacle Trail Contests until October 24 or attaining 50 competitors per day - whichever comes first:    Adult - $55.00 per day; Student - $25.00 per day; Companion - $25.00 per day.  Online registration fee for Race at a Walk until October 19:  $40.00.

ADDITIONAL FEES - CASH ONLY - PAYABLE AT REGISTRATION TABLE DAY OF EVENT:

LATE REGISTRATION FEES  after October 24 - CASH only:   6-Mile Obstacle Trail Contests: Adult- $65.00 per day; Student-$35.00 per day; Companion- $35.00 per day.   Race at a Walk:  $50.00.

BLM USE FEE - $10.00 per competitor per day for trail competitions.

FACILITY USE FEE  - $15.00 per day - clinic and/or  trail competition.

 DRY CAMPING - No Hookups:  $30.00 for weekend. Dry camping includes use of bathrooms, showers and water for your horses.

DAILY PARKING FEE - vehicle, trailer or LQ parking (if not camping)  - $10.00

 TWO BUNKHOUSES - $30.00 per weekend - plywood bunks available - each bunkhouse holds ten people - one side holds six people and the other side holds four people.  The bunk is plywood --You bring your own MATTRESSES AND BEDDING.  Showers & restroom close by for your use.  Call Carole at 602-686-2435 to reserve.

RANCH GENERATOR ELECTRICITY available 5:00 A.M. TO 9:00 A.M. AND 5:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M. DAILY at the Shower House and and in the pavillion to warm poluck dishes.  

 HORSE PENS:  57 pens available.   $30.00 for weekend.  $15.00 for each addiitonal night.  Call Carole at 602-686-2435 to reserve.   You may secure your horse to your trailer or in your portable pens, hi-ties or electric corrals.  Hitching rails are available for your use if you wish. Water is available for your horse. 

 Manure will be picked up so please pile it in an area so it can be picked up easily  (4 feet from fence) by the ranch caretaker on a tractor.  DO NOT SCATTER MANURE.

There will be someone to assist you in finding a parking spot but please park wisely to accommodate other competitors and rigs.   

 Lunch - bring your own all three days.  

SHOES or BOOTS RECOMMENDED.  

 DOGS:  All dogs must be on a leash at all times. If left unattended they must be kept in your trailer and not disturb other people. Please pick up after your dog.  NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THE TRAIL.  This is ccoyote coutry - do not tie your dog to the trailer and leave.

DIRECTIONS

From Wickenburg:   Head NW on Highway 93 towards Las Vegas.  Look for a Mobile gas station.  Drive exactly one mile past the Mobile and turn right at the U-Haul Storage Facility on to Scenic Loop Drive.  If you get to a rounabout with two giant spurs in the middle, you have gone too far.  Circle back in the roundabout and go back the other direction.  Stay on Scenic Loop Road for 8.5 miles.  You will go over five cattle guards.  Follow signs to the Boyd Ranch.  Ranch will be on your right.  THIS IS A DIRT ROAD -- EXPECT A SLOWER SPEED AND ABOUT 30 TO 35 MINUTES OF DRIVING TIME ONCE YOU TURN OFF OF HIGHWAY 93.

 From Prescott or Kingman:   Traveling South on Highway 93 from Kingman make a left at the Boyd Ranch sign (at the U-Haul Storage Facility) on to Scenic Loop Drive after marker 194.  From Prescott traveling on Highway 89, 10 miles south of Congress, go left on to Highway 93 at the Y towards Wickenburg.  Make a left after mile marker 194 at the U-Haul Storage Facility on to Scenic Loop Drive at the Boyd Ranch sign which is on the left.  This is shortly after the roundabout with the giant spurs. Stay on Scenic Loop Road for 8.5 miles.  You will go over five cattle guards.  Follow signs to The Boyd Ranch.  Ranch will be on your right.  THIS IS A DIRT ROAD -- EXPECT A SLOWER SPEED AND ABOUT 30 TO 35 MINUTES OF DRIVING TIME ONCE YOU TURN OFF OF HIGHWAY 93.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – WHEN GOING HOME FROM BOYD RANCH – GO RIGHT TO GO LEFT:

The traffic on Highway 93 is very heavy both ways.  Sometimes it is very difficult to make a lefthand turn to get on to the highway.  Instead make a righthand turn – go about a fourth-of-a-mile to the round-about with the giant spurs – and come back to go left (or south).
