This workshop will help participants to understand basic terminology, understand WV law and some federal law related to sexual orientation and gender identity while looking at a select few landmark court cases, and learn techniques that provide respect to everyone regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. Anyone that has a desire to learn some basic biology, terminology, policies, and strategies for providing a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals should find this workshop helpful.

Presenter
Selina Vickers, MA, LSW is the Adolescent Health Initiative Coordinator for SESC (Southern Educational Services Cooperative). Selina received her Masters in Counseling from WV Graduate College and her Bachelors in Biology and Recreation from Berea College. Selina has worked as a counselor in a school based setting, as well as in outpatient youth and family counseling. She is a technical assistant for schools and communities around adolescent health issues. Selina strongly believes in developing positive relationships with youth and role modeling positive relationships, as well as building developmental assets in families, schools, and communities. Selina is a national FLASH (Family Life and Sexual Health), Green Dot (Bystander Intervention), and Youth Mental Health First Aid trainer. She is the instructor of record for several graduate courses through Concord University.
