Beginning Garment Sewing Workshop

Learn how to read and trace a pattern and then sew one of the garments from The Act of Sewing. You can choose from a simple top, pants, skirt or dress. Previous experience with a sewing machine is required, and beginner lessons and classes are also available. In this workshop, you will receive direct instruction and work at your own pace. You may bring your own machine or use one of ours. We will meet for 2 hours over three sessions. If you need additional time or help with the project, you may add on a private lesson or Drop In Sewing time.

Materials:

The Act of Sewing by Sonya Philip - $26.95

1 1/2 - 3 yards mid-weight cotton or linen fabric - $13.50 and up (suggestions: quilting cotton, hemp, linen, linen blends, denim, corduroy, poplin, or flannel)

1 - 2 yards 3/4" elastic - $3 (for pants or skirt)

coordinating thread - $2.50

2 yards pattern tracing paper - $8.50

Also needed:

fabric scissors, pins or wonder clips, large safety pin or bodkin, chalk pencil or heat erasable marker

Supplies must be purchased before the date of the first class, whether in store or online. We are happy to assist you in person or via phone at 773.486.8996. Fabric needs to be pre-washed and ironed so you are ready to sew for the first class. All students must have sewing experience with a machine and be ready to learn new skills. If you've never sewn on a machine before, we recommend our beginner class or a beginner sewing lesson.
