In this intercultural training Dr. Irina Chamine will provide clinicians with a general overview of the process of immigration and adaptation to a new culture and Mouammar Abouagila will focus on issues related to working with survivors of torture and promising therapeutic approaches. Further, our presenters will discuss several aspects of providing comprehensive mental health services with specific communities served at OHSU’s Intercultural Psychiatric Program in Portland, OR. Learner Objectives

  1. Review challenges faced by immigrants and refugees and cultural adaptation process.
  2. Review suggestions for culturally competent and socially just practices when working with clients from diverse cultures
  3. Learn about The Torture Treatment Center of Oregon (TTCO) and services provided.
  4. Learn how to develop an integrated, comprehensive approach to rehabilitation for torture victims.

2 CEU's will be awarded to social workers, counselors and marraige and family therapists at no charge upon completion of the training, comprehension quiz and evaluation. Please contact your board for specifics on requirements for your license or certification.
