Prevention Ethics Training

Objectives

  • Explore the role of ethics in their daily prevention work
  • Describe the Prevention Code of Ethics’ six key principles and engage in discussions on ethical issues presented in various scenarios
  • Apply a four-step decision-making model to assess and address ethical dilemmas

About the Trainers

Kimberly Thalison

Kim Thalison is a Certified Prevention Specialist with Eaton RESA, managing a grant-funded school wellness and prevention department. She has been working in the field of substance misuse and youth risk behavior prevention for 17 years, beginning her career with the Mid-South Substance Abuse Commission. Kim serves on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) and is the co-chair of the MCBAP Prevention Workgroup. In addition to her work in the State of Michigan, Kim coordinated risk and protective factor survey implementation and analysis for communities and states across the country.

Louise Montag

Louise Montag, CPC-R, Executive Director at Prevention Network, has over five years of experience working in substance misuse prevention. Louise graduated from Oakland University in 2017 with a degree in Wellness and Health Promotion and has a background in implementing evidence-based wellness strategies to students and faculty at a Division 2 University. Following that, Louise coordinated the Michigan Higher Education Network, working with campuses across the state and representing Michigan on national coalitions and taskforces. Louise was named one of the Top 10 Alumni within 10 Years at Oakland University and Michigan Preventionist of the Year in 2019 by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service. 

Parking Information

Parking is not allowed in front of the Health Department glass doors on both ends of the building as those spaces are for clients only. 

Refer to the attached map on where to park which is any staff parking lot on the sides or in back of the building or at the Spectrum CC Parking lot across the street and accessible by a sidewalk.

The following hotel is approximately 5 minutes from Kent County Health Department: Hampton Inn & Suites Grand Rapids Downtown

If you are sick on the day of the training, please stay home and let us know as soon as possible. We will either refund your registration or move it to the next available training date.

The Ethics in Prevention training was developed under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies task order. Reference#HHSS283201200024I/HHSS28342002T. For training use only. Both trainers are certified to facilitate this curriculum. 

This training qualifies for continuing education credits through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP). This Prevention Ethics training will ONLY satisfy the requirement for the ethics requirement for Certified Prevention Specialist or Certified Prevention Consultant. Participants will receive 6 hours of MCBAP CEUs (for CPS/CPC cert).
