Description: This panel will address how to investigate complaints of discrimination or harassment; describe what constitutes harassment; teach claims professionals how to train employees; and how to recognize ways to defend claims if they are made. Using an actual case, we will discuss ways the case could have been handled differently so that claims do not arise.

Social Inflation, Nuclear Verdicts, and Lizard Lawyers

Description: Nuclear verdicts are multi-million dollar awards, disproportionate to the injuries sustained or medical bills incurred by the plaintiff, usually for a plaintiff's subjective and immeasurable pain and suffering. This session will focus on recent nuclear verdicts throughout the U.S., the "why" behind nuclear verdicts, what the insurance professional and their counsel can do to combat these verdicts, and how to identify and combat the plaintiff attorneys' reptile strategy which is a main driving force behind many of these nuclear verdicts.
