This new virtual workshop introduces the recently developing disease entity of osteosarcopenia. This newly identified musculoskeletal syndrome is the co-existence of osteoporosis and sarcopenia so it is important for PT/OT rehab providers to understand these conditions, related diagnoses, and the wide range of relevant modifiable risk factors.
- Definitions of osteopenia, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and osteosarcopenia.
- Overview including risk factors, pathophysiology, and diagnostics.
- Current approaches and interventions to optimize muscle and or bone health.
- Components of the PT/OT evaluation such as functional tests and key pieces of subjective data collection.
By the completion of the workshop you will be able to:
- Compare and contrast osteopenia, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and osteosarcopenia.
- Identify risk factors and treatments related to osteosarcopenia.
- Cite and apply guidelines for exercise recommendations.
- Discuss non-pharmalogical interventions for osteosarcopenia.
