Aging and Wellness: Mitochondria, Medications, and Supplements

This new virtual workshop is an intriguing update on mitochondrial function related to aging and wellness with direct application to PT/OT patient care. Also knowing the impact of medications and the role of supplements and nutrition can help any rehab professional better strategize treatments and education of patients in the aging continuum. 

  • Signs and symptoms of mitochondrial dysfunction 
  • PT/OT interventions and education to optimize mitochondrial function during an episode of care
  • Overview of medication interactions, side effects/adverse drug reactions, and potential nutrient depletion relevant to PT/OT services
  • Introduction to the role of supplements and nutrition in aging and wellness

By the completion of the workshop you will be able to:

  1. List signs and symptoms of mitochondrial dysfunction as they relate to PT/OT plans of care and rehab progressions.
  2. Describe how exercise, nutrition, and fasting can impact mitochondria, aging, and wellness.
  3. Recognize common medications that may adversely impact optimal performance.
  4. Incorporate basic diet, nutrition, and lifestyle education as a component of rehab.
