Anne Cushman
Anne Cushman is the author of the memoir The Mama Sutra: A Story of Love, Loss, and the Path of Motherhood; the novel Enlightenment for Idiots, named by Booklist as one of the top ten first novels of its year; the mindful yoga manifesto Moving Into Meditation; and the India pilgrimage guidebook From Here to Nirvana. Her personal essays on spiritual practice in daily life have been widely published in venues that include the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, O: The Oprah Magazine, and Lion’s Roar. She is the mentoring director for the international Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program; a member of the Teachers Council at Spirit Rock Meditation Center; and a former editor for both Yoga Journal and Tricycle: The Buddhist Review.

Creative writing as an awakening path
Four Thursdays--July 20, July 27, Aug 3, Aug 10

Ignite your storytelling, build creative momentum, connect with a writing sangha, and write your way into the heart of your life in this four-session series. We’ll explore different dimensions of writing as a path to waking up, including themes like “body stories,” “roots and wings,” “the power of place,” and “hearts breaking open.” Journaling prompts help keep you inspired to write between sessions. Each session includes meditation practices that ground you in your wise heart, energy practices that clear the pathways of creativity, writing prompts that evoke the free flow of imagination and memory, and sharing your work in small groups without judgment or critique. All those who identify as women are welcome.
