Will You Come to Dinner?

We are celebrating eighteen years of impact, and hope you will join us to toast the milestone.

It seems that just yesterday that I registered the brand new Recipe for Success Foundation. Now, thousands of memories wash over me from rolling up my sleeves in the beginning to teach kids to cook and lately to build our farm, to the joyous camaradarie of working side by side with famous chefs, loyal friends, and passionate volunteers making something important happen together, to the heady experieces of speaking from the TED stage and attending meetings at the White House the pictures remain vivid in my mind.

The idea for Recipe for Success was hatched at the turn of the century when I became alarmed by the devastating impact that chldhood obesity is having in our world.  I asked questions and dug for answers.  While not the only factor, I discovered the biggest were tied to the food we eat and the way we eat it. I love food—to grow, cook and eat it. So with Bob's support, I set out to make a lasting impact, empowering the next generation to make better eating decisions by exciting kids about healthy food in delicious ways, teaching them how to prepare it and by making it easier for parents to put healthy meals on the table.  It's working. We have continuously measured and documented meaningful change in children's behavior.

Since that first day, with the help of so many chefs, volunteers, collaborators and donors, we have impacted thousands of children in Houston and beyond, providing them with the knowledge and skills to make healthier decisions.  We have been featured in a slew of national magazines and on the Today Show; we have been held up across the country as a best practice; taken our Seed-to-Plate Nutrition Education™ program to schools from coast to coast and our VegOut! Challenge around the world; and we have built a vegetable farm in the heart of Houston. Though some of our efforts hit pause during the pandemic, we are re-emerging like a butterfly from its chrysalis and engaging more Houstonians in more ways than ever before.

We hope you can join us to celebrate this passage and toast the future when we gather around the dinner table in November. We promise you an extraordinary meal in the midst of our urban farm's enchanting setting. The icing on the cake is that your gift will help fuel yet another year of our dynamic programs to teach, empower and inspire healthy eating.

If you can't be with us at dinner, Bob and I would be grateful for your consideration of a gift to help us continue this critical work, and encourage you to come out soon to see for yourself what we are up to.
