 Oak Wilt Training Workshop

Oak wilt was confirmed in Niagara Falls, Ontario in May 2023, making it the first known case of the disease in Canada. In response, the Invasive Species Centre is hosting a free Oak Wilt Training Workshop in collaboration with the Ontario Woodlot Association and the Ontario Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. This workshop will be particularly useful for municipal, conservation, and forest industry staff looking to gain practical skills that can be used on the ground to protect and manage oak trees.

Attendees will learn about oak wilt identification, monitoring, management, and research from a variety of experts at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, City of Niagara Falls, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and Invasive Species Centre.

The day will start in the classroom and end outdoors. The outdoor practical field component will teach participants how to develop and implement oak wilt management plans. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring proper footwear in case of wet conditions.

Eligible forestry members can receive continuing education units through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) for attending this workshop.

Refreshments will be available but please prepare a backup lunch.

Seating is limited - Registration is required to ensure venue capacity.
