ANEW GBVH Convening

Thursday, September 28, 2023

8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Long Term Goals of Work to Prevent and address GBVH:

  • Draft and adopt new CBA language that incorporates tradeswomen union workers’ experiences with gender-based violence and harassment, what behaviors they want to be prohibited, and actions they proactively want the union and employer to take to prevent it (training, monitoring, evaluation of interventions, confidential information line), using ILO C190 as model language to consider.
  • Increased awareness and understanding among union women leaders, employers and government leaders of what GBVH in the workplace is, its root causes and impacts.
  • Adoption of local, or statewide legislation amending definition of sexual harassment that better reflects the experience of tradeswomen; mandating ongoing interactive worker-led training and education.
  • Develop long-term sustainable connections and networks (coalitions?) of diverse union women workers across sectors who committed to and engaged in efforts to amend law and policy regarding GBVH at work to make it more responsive to the needs and experiences of women workers.
