The Secret Ingredient:  Spatial Use in ASL Discourse

In ASL spatial classifier expressions, the location of the hands in a person's signing space depicts the relative position of described objects. When objects are physically present, the arrangement of the hands maps to the observed position of objects being discussed in the conversation. For example: how to tell someone it's a place with directions or where the mayo is in the fridge.

In this workshop, you will gain an understanding of spatial use in ASL discourse, recognize figures of speech used in ASL, and enhance your use of ASL through the incorporation of this skill.
