We are hosting a screening and “thought salon” at Hope Farms on Thursday, October 12 which is National Farmers Day. “Kiss the Ground” presents many of our organization’s core beliefs in an inspiring and thought provoking way. To help us increase awareness and drive change we want to ensure that our community, partners and civic leaders see it in a venue that exemplifies and magnifies the message.
Located in a historic Black Houston neighborhood, Recipe for Success Foundation’s Hope Farms Urban Agricultural Showcase and Training Center is a critical initiative committed to increasing food security, providing nutrition education and growing a new generation of urban farmers in Houston, Texas. We foster regenerative, climate positive, pre-Industrial Age farming agricultural traditions and mentor new farmers. We offer hands-on, intensive courses and Master Classes of Gulf Coast horticulture, food production and distribution fundamentals, agri-business, beekeeping, pomology, season extension and specialty food crops; and regular “thought” gatherings of trainees, alum, ag educators, community leaders, master farmers and chefs. Revitalizing inner-city neighborhoods, addressing community health, celebrating Houston’s diverse cultural heritage by generating broad understanding of critical sustainable local food shed issues and expanding the footprint of urban farms deploying regenerative agriculture in an environmentally forward fashion is central to Recipe for Success Foundation’s mission.
Since 2005, Recipe for Success Foundation has worked to combat childhood obesity by changing the way our children understand, appreciate and eat their food, and by educating and mobilizing the community to provide healthier diets for children. With programs to teach, empower and inspire, we work to establish healthy eating as the norm and to create a culture in which nutritious food is shared, appreciated, and celebrated.
