Course Summary

Dynamic assessment is an innovative and interactive approach to evaluating individuals' abilities and potential for learning and development. Unlike traditional static assessments that measure a person's current skills and knowledge, dynamic assessment focuses on understanding how an individual engages with new information, adapts to challenges, and responds to guidance. This method involves a dynamic interaction between the assessor and the individual, often through problem-solving tasks or learning opportunities presented in real-time. By observing an individual's responses, strategies, and willingness to explore novel concepts, dynamic assessments offer valuable insights into their cognitive processes, problem-solving skills, and capacity for growth. This approach is particularly beneficial when assessing individuals with diverse learning profiles, as it not only identifies areas of need but also provides a deeper understanding of their learning potential and the most effective ways to support their progress.

This comprehensive course offers occupational therapists (OT), physical therapists (PT), and speech-language pathologists (SLP) a specialized exploration into the realm of performing dynamic assessments on children with complex needs. Dynamic assessments provide a unique approach to understanding a child's abilities and challenges in real-world contexts, offering valuable insights for tailored intervention planning and effective collaboration among the three disciplines.
