Program Description

Gifts and deferred bequests are a huge part of an organization's planned giving program. We all understand that cash is king, but over the years donors have also become interested in giving non-cash gifts. To accommodate a wide array of charitable gifts, organizations have expanded their gift acceptance policies to include gifts that range from publicly traded securities to cryptocurrency. With this in mind, we're going to take a look at how you can avoid gifts that don't support your mission, how to determine if you should accept a gift, and if not, how do you say "No, thank you."

Presented by Mariana Katsnelson, Senior Executive Director Estate Administration, City of Hope and  Adrienne Gibson, Senior Director of Planned Giving, City of Hope

Marina Katsnelson currently serves as the Senior Executive Director Estate Administration at City of Hope. In this role, Marina oversees the estate and trust administration program, which includes managing probate and trust litigation, handling gifts of complex assets, and facilitating realized bequests to City of Hope. Marina also oversees the management of the life-income program and works closely with City of Hope’s institutional partner, TIAA Kaspick. Prior to joining City of Hope in 2021, Marina managed estate administration at The Nature Conservancy for eight years, where she oversaw litigation matters, worked on many types of real estate gifts, and provided expertise to fundraisers on estate planning questions.

Adrienne Gibson serves as a Senior Director of Planned Giving at City of Hope. In her role she works as a frontline fundraiser and cultivates, solicits and stewards deferred gifts. An expert relationship builder, she is happy to be once again in a donor facing role. In addition to frontline fundraising, she is excited to be collaborating with her colleagues in data and analytics and prospect management to develop a data driven strategy to grow the grateful patient planned giving pipeline. Before joining the Planned Giving Team at City of Hope she spent 13 years at her alma mater, Scripps College building her fundraising toolkit in annual giving, alumnae relations, planned giving and finally as the executive director of Alumnae and Parent Relations and the Scripps Fund.
