McPherson Elementary School - String Orchestra

Second through Fifth Grade Students are invited to join the McPherson Elementary School Strings Orchestra. This is a school-paid program.

Rehearsals will be held twice per week on Mondays and Wednesdays. One session will be for full group instruction. The second session will work with smaller groups in sectional breakout practice.

Students will be assigned to the beginning or intermediate orchestra based on instrument experience. Placement in the intermediate orchestra will not be based on the number of years with lessons but on grouping with children of similar abilities together and will be determined by Musical Chairs Studio. Instruments will be provided by McPherson School. An instrument rental/maintenance fee of $100-$150 for the year may apply.

The program is designed to create a strong instrument foundation and prepare students to participate in high school orchestra programs and beyond. The curriculum will focus on learning the instrument, ear training, reading the staff, understanding and articulating rhythm, and playing as an ensemble.

Rehearsal Schedule

** Participation in this program is voluntary. Musicians are expected to be on time and attend all rehearsals except in case of illness. Students understand while working as a group, there will be times when they should wait quietly for their turn to play. Respect for the instructor and following instructions are required at all times.

Should a student become disruptive to the rehearsal time, he/she may be asked to go to the office. Parents will be contacted to determine steps for improving cooperation in class. If improvement cannot be achieved, the student may be asked to leave the program to ensure other students have an enjoyable and productive learning environment.
