Breakout Session 1

1A. Passing The Torch; Navigating Business Ownership Transitions

Whether you’re planning for the future of your business, or interested in purchasing an existing business, this panel discussion will provide you with vital information. Join us to hear from experts and business owners as they share their insights and experiences on the intricacies of ownership transition and ensuring the seamless shift of business ownership.

1B. Youth Priorities for Downeast Maine

Washington County has been ‘hollowed out” in recent decades as young people migrate to urban areas. Despite this trend, 23% of millennials say they do want to live in small towns or rural areas. Young people want to stay in (or move back to) their hometowns to raise families and enjoy a lower cost of living,  as well as  close proximity to family and friends. Join us to learn from young leaders  in our community what we can do to make and keep Washington County their home.

1C. Municipal Leaders as Stewards of the Future

Join us for an engaging panel discussion that shines a spotlight on the pivotal role Municipal Leadership plays in shaping the future of our local communities. The panel will explore the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Washington County's communities alongside the tremendous responsibility our town governments navigate on a regular basis. This discussion promises to offer valuable insights into the stewardship of our beloved Washington County communities and how we can all work together to foster innovation, promote inclusivity, and safeguard the natural beauty of our region with a focus on building toward a brighter future for generations to come.

1D. Science and Environmental Education: Preparing for a changing natural resource economy

Join us to learn more about building capacity through community collaboratives and increasing experiential learning opportunities across Hancock and Washington Counties for K-12,  post-secondary and continuing education.

Breakout Session 2:

2A. Addressing the Digital Divide through Digital Equity and Infrastructure

Join us to learn more about Digital Equity, MOOSE Net, $272M in  BEAD funding and its potential impact on the economy of Washington County - and Maine.

2B. Caregiving and the Sandwich Generation

The term “sandwich generation” refers to young to middle-aged adults who are simultaneously raising children and supporting their aging parents. About a quarter of U.S. adults (23%) are a part of the sandwich generation.  Join us to learn what it means to be part of the Sandwich Generation and what it could look like in 20 years.

 2C. Future Generations of Work

Join us to discover the new technologies and industries emerging into the current workforce. We will discuss projections of where these new innovative industries will lead us in the coming years. Our panelists will describe their barriers to success over the past few years. We will hear from multiple panelists who each have something unique to bring to the table.

 2D. Substance Use/Return to Work

Join us to learn more about the barriers faced by our new neighbors, neighbors in recovery, and those with justice involvement, how we can work together to overcome these barriers, and assist in our neighbors obtaining living wage work.
