Please join us for Reappearance: Art Lab's Annual Fundraiser and Gallery Reopening, featuring our guest of honor: Elizabeth Bennett. We had the gallery renovated this past year and we are reopening it with our Open Call and Annual Fundraiser. It will be a night of art, live music, refreshments, raffles, and more. We hope to see you there!
Elizabeth Bennett is an arts advocate who has worked in the fields of grantmaking, fundraising, journalism, dramaturgy and education.
From 2016-2021, she led Staten Island Arts and created a multi-year audience development initiative focusing on racial equity, diversity and inclusion; initiated creative placemaking and public art projects; and advocated to increase funding for local artists. This work followed six years as the Director of the Program Services Unit in the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, where Staten Island was part of her portfolio. At DCA, Elizabeth was part of the team to distribute public funds to cultural organizations. She also managed the Cultural After-School Adventures Program.
She has worked in fundraising at Columbia University School of the Arts, Park Avenue Armory, and the 92nd Street Y. She now continues that work as a consultant for A.D. Hamingson and Associates where she has provided fundraising services for Hudson Valley Shakespeare Theatre, Building for the Arts, and other nonprofit cultural organizations.
For three decades, she has written for the Vineyard Gazette – Martha’s Vineyard’s newspaper of record – and now works as its community editor. She writes for Martha’s Vineyard Magazine, Island Weddings and The Vine.
Elizabeth holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama, where she worked as a chef at the Yale Summer Cabaret and volunteered as a class fundraising agent for the school.
