November 14, 2023 CSCE Monthly Dinner Meeting

Attendees may earn 1 New York State Professional
Development Hour (NYS PDH) at this Event.

Please join CSCE at our monthly meeting at the University of New Haven on November 14, 2023. At this meeting, Andrew Foden Ph.D., P.E., and Jordy Padilla-Solis, P.E., of HNTB will give a presentation on Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) for Bridge Deck Rehabilitation. This meeting is co-sponsored by the CT Chapter of the ASCE Transportation & Development Institute and the ASCE Student Chapter at the University of New Haven.

UHPC has been used for the last few decades mainly as a joint fill material to connect prefabricated concrete elements, particularly  for precast deck panels. However, not every structure needs a full deck replacement. This one-hour presentation will provide an overview of the state-of-the-art for the design, constructability, and feasibility of using UHPC for bridge deck overlays. Case studies, most notably the Delaware Memorial Bridge (Twin Suspension Bridge) will be discussed throughout the presentation.
