Addressing Microaggressions: Creating an Inclusive Environment with Dr. Deanna Wilson

Recently, there has been heightened attention to the prevalence of microaggressions in our society. Microaggressions are insensitive statements, questions or assumptions, that often lead towards marginalized identity groups (Washington, 2022). On the surface, microaggressions can appear to have little or no effect on people. However, microaggressions can be quite devastating to a person's mental and physical health (Washington 2022, Sue, Capodilupo, Torino, Bucceri, Holder, Nadal & Esquilin, 2007). This workshop will provide attendees with the ability to define the term microaggression and understand its prevalence. In addition, attendees will learn the impact of microaggressions, and finally participants will learn how to minimize their perpetuation of and how to respond to microaggressions at work.
