HOARDING DISORDER: A Community Approach

This training event will award 3 contact hours for LMSW and LCSW with the NYSED State Board for Social Work and 3 contact hours for LMHC and LMFT with the NYSED State Board for Mental Health Practitioners and 3 CASAC renewal credits.

This workshop provides a comprehensive training on Hoarding Disorder as a complex mental health condition in which the pathological attachment to possessions is often more important to the hoarding individual than human relationships.

Participants will explore the distinctions between clutter, chronic disorganization and hoarding.  They will learn the DSM-V criteria for a diagnosis of hoarding disorder; what and why people hoard; and the distress caused by compulsive hoarding.   Hoarding assessment tools will be reviewed along with identification of the collaborative professions and municipal departments that are frequently involved in either health/safety code violations.
