Comfort and Joy:

A 22 Day Advent and the Arts Novena

Enter in to the depth and beauty of the Advent season with Mythica's 22 Day series of music, art, meditation, poetry, story and writing practices, presented in a combination of written posts and live zoom events, with recordings for later streaming.

Weekdays we will have a 30 minute contemplative service of chanting, story and  prayer.  Each service will begin with one of the glorious settings of masses written in dedication to Mary throughout the centuries.  Together ,we will learn how to chant the Magnificat and the Alma Redemptoris Mater  which will form the book ends of our time. The centerpiece of our time together will be daily Visio Divina, a writing practice of meditating with art. We will draw closer to the story of Mary as an archetypal pattern of universal courage and compassion as we contemplate the great paintings  of Mary's life by Leonardo Da Vinci, Giotto, Van Eyck, Botticelli, Titian, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Phoebe Anna Traquair.

Sundays will be one hour sessions of sacred music: Compline  with Robin O'Brien on December 3 and 10; a video of Catherine Braslavksy's stirring Ave Eva on December 17.

Our last three days will have special live zoom events. On December 21, we will observe the Feast of Saint Thomas and learn about his connection to Mother Mary and the Assumption, a tradition richly celebrated in India. On December 22, we will have a closing circle to share our writing and art journaling from this series  and discuss what we have discovered . On December 23 we will celebrate the connection between Mary and the legends of Saint Brigid in Scotland as we usher in Christmas Eve with an hour of Celtic lullabies with Robin O'Brien.
