NICTD West Lake Corridor – TPG Bridge over Hohman Avenue-Presentation
Presented by Randy Thomas, PE
The West Lake Corridor Design-Build Project in Lake County, Indiana comprises a new 8-mile commuter rail line connecting the northwest Indiana communities of Hammond, Munster, and Dyer with the NICTD South Shore Line and service to Chicago. The approximately $550M project includes design of 53 commuter rail spans, one freight rail span, 20,000 linear feet of retaining walls, 4 pedestrian spans, 5 pedestrian tunnels, and 5 platforms, for which Jacobs served as lead designer with the FHP/RB JV Team. The presentation will provide an overview of the structures and design criteria for the WLC Project, along with a discussion of design and construction aspects of the 200-foot skewed thru plate girder span over Hohman Avenue. Steel erection for that span occurred in December 2023, and revenue service for the corridor is scheduled to begin in 2026.
