Melanie Carter

As one of EDC's Senior Small Business Account Managers, Mélanie Carter has spent the last eight years talking to Canadian companies every day about the challenges they face in breaking into international markets. She shares her expertise through multiple channels, including various EDC videos/webinars, demonstrating in practical ways how companies can grow their sales. Together with her knowledge of trade finance, her network in the financial community, and her skills in credit risk management, Carter works with small businesses to help them free up working capital and seize international opportunities with confidence. Carter joined EDC in 2005 following completion of a bachelor’s degree at Ottawa University and Universtié Laval.

 

  

 Andrea Ewart

 President, OWIT International   

Andrea is an international trade attorney operating her own firm, DevelopTradeLaw, LLC. A Jamaican national and US-trained trade attorney/trade policy expert, Andrea brings to her practice 20 years of experience in economic development, her expertise in applying international trade rules to find practical business solutions, and a particular interest and focus on the impact of trade policy on women and on micro enterprises. Prior to opening her firm, she worked with the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP, and before that in the non-profit international development sector.

Prior to opening her own practice, Andrea worked with the Washington, D.C. office of the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP, where she counseled and represented clients on U.S. customs law and enforcement, U.S. export control laws, and African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) and Caribbean Basin Initiatives (CBI) preferential programs.  As part of the firm's public law practice, she also drafted legislation, monitored various legislative and regulatory initiatives, participated in legislative coalitions, and worked with U.S. legislative personnel.

Andrea is admitted to practice in Maryland, Washington D.C. and before the U.S. Supreme Court Bar.  She is serving as President of OWIT International for the 2016-2017 term. She lectures regularly before university, business, civic, and professional groups and publishes articles on international and trade law issues.  She writes a weekly blog on trade and development issues.  More information is available at www.developtradelaw.com
