The Easy Button Myth:
BIM and the Human Element

In the AEC industry, it is important not to popularize the idea that BIM is an "easy button". This is especially true when helping subcontractors make the transition to BIM for the first time. Rather, we promote the usefulness of the tool by showing how it aids in communication and coordination through visualization. In this presentation, we will primarily discuss workflows with Revit and Navisworks that streamline the coordination process as well as helpful communication strategies we have successfully used with subcontractors on some recent Modulus projects.

Jenn Thomas and Sara Troy, Modulus Consulting
Jenn Thomas received her B.A. in Architecture from UC Berkeley. Sara Troy received her Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic University – San Luis Obispo. Both women have over 6 years of experience using BIM in the AEC industry. Both are BIM Project Managers for Modulus Consulting, a national BIM services firm headquartered in San Francisco, CA. They specialize in structural, architectural, and MEP modeling in Revit as well as BIM coordination management. They have worked on a wide range of projects, such as a new zoo in Qatar, a micro-processor manufacturing facility, modular affordable housing, high-rises, hospitals, corporate offices and have successfully helped designers, GCs and subcontractors make the transition to BIM.
