Rural Development Initiatives will host three Rural Skill Builder programs this year.  We are now registering for the first one in Vancouver, WA on May 13th for community builders from Northwest Oregon and along the Columbia Gorge. Revitalize your community-building efforts, gain new skills, share your work, and reconnect with RDI and other community builders.

This Rural Skill Builder Event is being held in conjunction with Conference of Communities.

Topics are:

Leading Across Cultures

Community Conflict Happens

Getting Your Community Work Funded

Effectively Facilitating Community Work

Working Across Generations

Special Speaker

Tom Gallagher, the first director for the Ford Institute for Community Building, will reflect on past and current community building efforts in rural areas.

Tom directed the growth of the Ford Institute for Community Building and its rural leadership development program from 2002 through 2011. Previously he served on the faculty of Oregon State University and the University of Alaska where he taught and conducted research in rural development. He has been a Kellogg Foundation Leadership Fellow since 1989 and in 2016 received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University. He will be married to his wife, Cheryl, 50 years on June 10; they have two children and three grandchildren.
