Teen Services at a Glance - Ocala (05/19/17)

This half day workshop will discuss the developmental needs of teens and take you step by step through the creative process of designing a program that your teens will love. Participants will learn useful tips and techniques for working with young adults that support YALSA’s “Young Adults Deserve the Best” requirements for libraries. We will focus on adolescent developmental needs and life experiences and best practices for involving teens in library programs.

After this workshop, stick around to meet with colleagues and participate in the NEFLIN Children's Services Interest Group

Trainers: Artistic Literacy

We are librarians, artists, and educators who are committed to teaching others how to connect art to literacy through programming.

Jennifer Parker recently entered her 28th year of public service and her 22th year as the Branch Manager of the Green Cove Springs Library, a small urban facility in North Florida. She has been developing and implementing programs for children, teens and adults since 1988. Since the 1990’s, Jennifer has served as an event planner for several educational, non-profit organizations. She has been an active lecturer on art appreciation, a weaving instructor/demonstrator, and a teacher of origami for more than 20 years. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL.

Elizabeth McConney has been providing art programming at libraries and schools in around the first coast since 2002. With a BA in visual arts from New College of FL, Elizabeth is a studio artist who works by commission. She offers a popular weekly early literacy art class, a monthly teen art program and a weekly art program for school age children. She crafts amazing felt stories. She works with local schools to provide school age and tween literacy programming.
