Preparation and Initiation of Masters                                             for Usui Shiki Ryoho

Takata orange dress head

In December of 1980, Hawayo Takata Sensei died and her granddaughter, Phyllis Furumoto, was recognized as her successor by many of the masters that Takata Sensei had initiated.   During the first meeting in Hawaii, the masters present acknowledged Phyllis’ succession by agreeing that she would be the only master to initiate masters. In the next years, Phyllis initiated masters; at first following her master’s style and then opening the self-assessment workshops for the purpose of preparing Master Candidates. In 1988, Phyllis realized that there was a belief growing. This belief was that she was the only master who had the “power” to initiate masters. This belief began to lead to other ideas that Phyllis did not find congruent with her experiences nor with her understanding of the energy. So she gave a presentation to the existing membership of The Reiki Alliance that stated the following: She was not the only person that had the “power” to initiate, every master could. It also seemed that this step was one that some masters needed to take and others did not. Masters could make their own decision about this.

Following this presentation, Phyllis was asked by many masters to hold a seminar to teach how to prepare and initiate masters. She declined for she felt that she had nothing to teach or present and she did not feel prepared to enter into the space of another masters’ step to initiate masters. She felt the step was one made by a master in relationship to the system, and this should not involve another master. That step was to share sacred and secret knowledge with a student. This was a very different step to initiating First and Second Degree students.

Phyllis Furumoto, ogm

Since 1992, Phyllis has worked with Paul Mitchell defining the system of practice given to us from Takata Sensei. This practice is formally known as Usui Shiki Ryoho. In 2005, masters asked: Since the system had this form, then what about this vital piece that could influence the stewardship of the practice, the initiation of masters?

From this question, Phyllis has offered this seminar for masters of Usui Shiki Ryoho.  From her years of experience and her observations of the master path, she shares essentials of preparation, knowing when the time is right for initation, and the initiation process.

Masters of Usui Shiki Ryoho who have taught students for 6 years and more are invited to apply for attendance in the seminar.  The application is included in the registration form.  Please respond to all the questions in details.  Phyllis will read your registration form and contact you directly by email with further questions or acceptance into the seminar.

Your registration will be confirmed by email.
