Alt Library: Programming for 20s and 30s - NEFLIN (02/22/17)

As your library evolves and becomes more future-oriented, you start thinking about ways you can ensure your longevity by offering unique, valuable, and intriguing services to your entire community. This includes young professionals, the “missing population” of patrons between college-aged individuals and senior citizens. In this workshop, you’ll discover more experimental and unusual programs for these patrons that will get them reinvested in your library—like the one they loved in high school!

Jupitus will share her six years of alt+library programming—the ins and outs, background, how-tos, successes and failures—to help you create longevity in your library.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Program suggestions and ideas that you can implement today

  • Learn from Jupitus’ successes and failures on alt+library programs

  • Best practices to plan and run these programs

  • Marketing how-tos including social media, alternative materials, and program titles

  • Information on “why to offer this” and “how to persuade administrators”

  • Community partnerships and local tie-ins
